Papillion plans birthday bash

Papillion’s sesquicentennial celebration, marking 150 years since the community’s founding as a railroad town in 1870, is fast approaching.

Papillion 150 will officially kick off this month in downtown Papillion at the annual Winter Wonderland on Saturday, November 30.  More to come on that event, so don’t miss it.  Check out the event Facebook page for additional information.

The Papillion Community Foundation is spearheading the effort to celebrate this important milestone.  Several events and initiatives are planned for the next year in commemoration of the occasion.

The “Wings Over Papillion” Butterfly Bench Public Art Project will showcase the talents of area artists.  Benches are sponsored by local businesses, organizations, and individuals. The benches will be on display throughout the community from April 12, 2020 through September 7, 2020.

Another such initiative is the creation of large butterfly murals called “The Butterfly Effect Social Butterfly installations.”  Citizens and visitors of Papillion are invited to take a fun picture in front of the murals; text the image to 402-215-2464, and a donation will be made on your behalf to the Papillion Community Foundation and other selected community organizations.  Include the hashtags #papillion150 #butterflyeffect #socialbutterfly with your submission.
